Now he’s morphed into a male model for Issey Miyake in London! And he has an 18-yr. old daughter named Mary who needs tutoring (for which, of course, he wants all of your personal information so he can send you a counterfeit cashier’s check which he will later want reimbursed with real money, etc.) – He responded to my legitimate posting on craigslist for a Hindi tutor, and his English is atrocious. Hope no one falls for any of his scams. Beware!

I’m so glad I found this. Kerry John (he added a third name – Smith – with an 18 year old daughter, Juliet) answered my add on Craigslist for a Hebrew and Greek tutor. I’ve been going back and forth with him for at least a month. I wouln’t give him my personal information without first getting his personal information. I haven’t been able to get any information out of him about what he wants as far as the tutoring, all he says is he’ll send a cashiers check when I give him my full name and address, etc. It sounded fishy, so I haven’t given him my information and I am so glad I didn’t. His first email is almost word for word with what has been posted here from other tuturing situations. I’ll warn anyone else who reads this, he just does not give up.

I received the following email on 3-30-2009 from kerry0001@gmail.com in response to a posting of mine on craigslist. Be aware that more and more scammers are using gmail or ymail to assault their victims as the IP address is not usually made known due to Gmail protocol (NOTE: to obtain the IP address within Gmail, click on the down arrow located in the upper right hand corner of the email and select “show original”, obtain the originating IP address and then plug it into one of the “IP location” websites for location verification). However, there are exceptions to this rule. I have discovered that a laptop computer will reveal the IP location. It would not surprise me if this person is a Nigerian scammer.

He wrote pretty much the same weird text as in the cases listed above, asking for ESL lessons for his daughter (Mary). So what is this person up to? To those of you who provided your information, my advice would be to cease communication and not cash a check if he sends one. I wonder if he might actually be sending checks, to make it look like good faith before he receives services, and then somehow use the address, name and bank account numbers to access information he shouldn’t…? This is all fairly recent, so either he’s getting kicks from the pranks, or he plans to do something with the information.
We’ll check back in case someone finds out what he’s up to…thanks to the original poster!!!

Here’s an email I received from Micheal Chult in response to my craigslist ad for teaching sewing. I get at least one of these types of emails per week, someone wanting to send their daughter or son (!) to sewing school all the way from the UK. I just ignore them or send a reply email saying “thank you very much, I’ll be forwarding your email right to the Secret SErvice.
By the way, I think the forwarding email to send email frauds to the government is spam@uce.gov.

I got the same scam email as a response to my Craigslist Ad. He says his name is Marry Allin and his daughter is Juliet, 14. His email text is the same all the ones I read in the previous comments. I googled both of them and his UK address and nothing seemed straight forward. But, thanks to this site and your comments I will even be more cautious about responses from Craigslist.
I know to always make deals face to face and with cash only when it comes to Craigslist and other websites.
Keep your eyes open… we are in a crissis and there are a lot of laid-off people who have to pay their new big HD flat screens. Slowly, and thanks to our economic crisis , the American people will learn to live without extravagant credit card spending. A refocus on protecting nature and living a simpler life can also make us very happy… : )

Wow, this person must have multiple personalities. I, like everyone else, got an email response to my craigslist post for Spanish tutoring. I got basically the same email as everyone else, saying that she is Mrs. Annah Larry, a model working for four weeks only, wants lessons for her 14 year old daughter Juliet. I responded and wanted to know exactly what dates she would be here, told her that since this is for a minor I wanted to meet her before I began lessons, and will only accept cash payment in person, not to mail it. I gave her a partial address, some info so she will not know exactly where I live.
I then received the following response, notice she changes her daughter’s name to Janet, and totally disregards the fact that I will not accept checks….
Hello, Am ok with all you have said, Now as you have email me your information to receive the cheque i will want you to understand that I and my finacial at united state have allready negotiate about all the payment including the cab company fee and he has agree that he will finance me with the sum of $5000 for janet lesson fee and the cab company fee and also let me understand that the payment can only make out in one check so i have decide to make the check of $5000 out to your name and address so once you receive the payment you will deduct your total charges for the 2hr a day 3 days in a week for good four week then i will immidiatlly email you the cab company western union information to wire there own money to.. I am wondering legally what can be done about this? I of course will not cash the check or wire her money. But if I were to take this fake check to the bank, or police, will they be able to do anything?? Should I take the check to the police, telling them it is a fake, or just ignore it when it is mailed?

I NEVER give out personal information of any kind, nor do I post the addresses or give them out so any one can ‘drive by’ and take
a look at it.
I usually won’t even make an appointment until I’ve actually spoken to the potential renter in length – to get a feel for who they are.
After that, if my instincts are telling me its a serious contender I then make an appointment with them.

Sounded very suspicious to me, and the biggest give-away was his atrocious English. I was advertising on Craig’s List for piano lessons. The email I received was pretty much verbatim what the others have been – under the name of Dr. Micheal Scott. Even if he was a doctor from a third world country who happened to be living in England, his English would most likely be immaculate. What a scam! He’s preying on the economic situation – what piano/guitar/tennis teacher wouldn’t want to get all those hours – - except that most of us wouldn’t have the time availability if we had a decent number of students to begin with. SO GLAD TO HAVE GOOGLED THIS SCAMMER.
