I am trying to rent an apartment and also received the exact same email from James (whoever he is). The email address was the same as the one used for Tim (above) jamesmcannon117@googlemail.com. I reported him to the Federal Trade Commission. Please do the same if he contacts you.

This guy gets around. Trying to rent a property in Oregon and posted it on Craigslist. James Cannon sent me the same email:

BEWARE , I live in Vermont with a chalet that I have for rent and this lowlife is trying the same scam on me with the exact story that he has fed other people. I do hope that this James Cannon is caught and prosecuted.

Went through the entire process with this guy James Cannon – word for word for a rental unit advertised on Craig’s List. Got suspicious when he wanted me to wire transfer funds to his decorator Shala Hart in Columbus, SC – I live in Vermont. The Vt Attorney General says there is nothing that can be done but suggests getting the word out so that people will not waste time and not get caught by this person.

- Wow, I am currently advertising my home for rent on Craig’s List. Today I received an email from a James W Cannon his email address: jamesmcannon173@googlemail.com. The email arrived in my junk mail folder but, since it was craig’s list I moved it to safe. The email was just like the letters listed above. I answered the first email by asking him to tell me a little about himself…thus when I received the letter like those above. I did not answer the second email. I immediately googled the company he was being represented by and it led me here. Thank you so much for such a website. This James Cannon is now blocked from making contact with me. By the way, I live in East TN…so this guy is bad news and still alive and well. Once again, I thank you for the heads up!
